Argentina Strengthens Lead in CONMEBOL U-17 Women’s Championship as Colombia and Chile Draw

The 2026 CONMEBOL U-17 Women’s Championship continued on Tuesday, April 28, with Matchday 3 of the group stage delivering another exciting round of action in Paraguay. Argentina claimed an important victory over Bolivia, while Colombia and Chile played out a goalless draw in the second match of the day.

Argentina’s dominant 3-0 win over Bolivia reinforced their position at the top of Group A, while the draw between Colombia and Chile kept the standings tight behind the Albiceleste.

Argentina 3-0 Bolivia: Albiceleste Continue Their Strong Campaign

Argentina secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Bolivia at Estadio Ameliano in Villeta, earning three crucial points in their pursuit of qualification.

The breakthrough came late in the first half when Lola Conde found the back of the net in the 43rd minute to give Argentina the lead heading into halftime.

Argentina maintained their momentum after the break, with Agustina Maldonado doubling the advantage in the 52nd minute. Lola Hernández then completed the scoring in the 73rd minute, sealing an emphatic win for the Albiceleste.

With the result, Argentina remain unbeaten in the tournament and sit atop Group A with seven points.

Argentina’s Historic Run Continues

The victory also marked a historic milestone for Argentina in the CONMEBOL U-17 Women’s Championship.

The Albiceleste have now recorded their first-ever five-match unbeaten streak in tournament history, posting three wins and two draws over that span. During that run, Argentina has averaged 1.6 goals per match, failing to score only once in a 0-0 draw against Venezuela in 2025.

Despite dominating open play early against Bolivia—creating 71% of their first-half shots from open-play situations before scoring—the opening goal came via a direct free kick.

Agustina Maldonado also etched her name into the tournament’s recent history by scoring the longest-range goal of the last three editions of the competition, striking from 35.5 meters. Argentina now owns the three longest-distance goals of the current tournament.

Additionally, Argentina’s first-half attacking display was one of their best in recent years, producing 14 shots, including six on target, their highest first-half total since a 4-0 win over Peru in 2024.

Colombia and Chile Battle to Scoreless Draw

In the second match of the day, Colombia and Chile played to a 0-0 draw in a tightly contested encounter at Estadio Ameliano.

The result leaves Colombia still searching for their first victory of the tournament, while Chile remains in second place behind Argentina in Group A.

Although neither side managed to score, the match featured a tactical battle with contrasting styles of play.

Colombia outshot Chile 9-5 and generated more expected goals (0.5 xG to 0.1 xG), but Chile controlled more possession, holding the ball 53% of the time, and delivered significantly more crosses (18 to 8).

Interestingly, both teams relied heavily on long-range shooting:

  • 75% of Colombia’s shots came from outside the box
  • 100% of Chile’s shots were taken from outside the area

These figures make Colombia and Chile two of the teams with the highest proportion of long-distance attempts in the tournament so far.

Historically, Colombia has enjoyed success against Chile in this competition, remaining unbeaten in eight of their 10 meetings (6 wins, 2 draws, 2 losses). Their previous draw before this one came in the inaugural 2008 edition.

Upcoming Matches – Group B

The tournament continues on Wednesday, April 29, at Estadio Defensores del Chaco with Group B action:

  • Venezuela vs Uruguay – 17:00 (Paraguay time)
  • Ecuador vs Peru – 20:00 (Paraguay time)

Tournament Outlook

With one of the strongest starts in the competition, Argentina appears firmly in control of Group A and increasingly close to qualification for the next stage. Meanwhile, Colombia and Chile remain in contention, setting up a dramatic finish to the group stage.

As the 2026 CONMEBOL U-17 Women’s Championship progresses, every point will continue to matter in the race for continental glory and qualification to the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
